Suzy Fasht's paintings are a response to the seasonal plants and landscape around her area of rural Devon. Working in oils, watercolour or egg tempera, she aims to convey her appreciation for the natural world together with a consideration of the design elements for each painting.
The paintings exhibited here were made during the summer lockdown when life became quieter for Suzy. This quietness is reflected in the calm of these paintings, expressed through the choice of a more natural palette and the subject being given due space around it. There was time to slow down and focus on drawing and observing the small details of plants and wild flowers growing in the Devon hedgerows and around the studio. These humble stems are given importance and central stage; appreciation for the natural world is expressed by Suzy in this way.
